Acclaimed by the American critics as “the greatest talent of the last 30 years”, the
pianist Antonio Pompa-Baldi it has established itself internationally after winning
prestigious awards in competitions Van Cliburn and Cleveland in the USA, and
Marguerite Long in Paris.
New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Le Figaro, Chicago Tribune are just some of the
publications that they spent words of great admiration for his pianism.
He regularly performs in the most prestigious halls of five continents. Among the
cities touched in yours tours include New York (Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center),
Paris (Salle Pleyel, Salle Gaveau, Theater des Champs-Elysees, Salle Cortot), London,
Stuttgart, Tokyo, Seoul, Beijing, Shanghai, Los Angeles, Chicago, Cleveland, Boston,
Milan, Auckland, Philadelphia, Miami, and Johannesburg.
Among the highlights of his career, Pompa-Baldi performed the
Rachmaninoff’s Second Concerto with the Houston Symphony, conducted by
Austrian master Hans Graf; he played Tchaikovsky’s Primo with the Philharmonic
Orchestra Ukrainian national team in Kiev; he made his Tokyo debut with the
Berliner Symphoniker; he played Shostakovich’s Primo with Alison Balsom and the
Colorado Symphony; he performed the full cycle of Rachmaninoff’s concerts with
the Cape Town Philharmonic, South Africa; has inaugurated the first Lang Lang
festival in Shenzhen, China, at the invitation of the famous Chinese pianist; he
performed the integral of Beethoven’s five concerts in three evenings with the
Fresno Philharmonic and maestro Theodore Kuchar; he performed the concert in A
for the American premiere minor by Ottorino Respighi, a work that he later also
recorded on disc.
In the field of chamber music, Pompa-Baldi regularly participates in
festivals all over the world, collaborating among others with the quartets “Cavani”
and “Takacs”, members of the Juilliard Quartet, and first parts of the orchestras of
Cleveland, Dallas, Chicago and New York Philharmonic.
Pompa-Baldi was the protagonist of two television documentaries broadcast on
television American and Canadian public, and has performed several times for
national televisions of the countries of the European Union. His live concerts and his

records are regularly broadcast from major radio stations around the world,
including Italian, English, German, American, Canadian, French, Polish and Chinese.
In addition to a disc for Harmonia Mundi, which contains live performances
recorded during the Van Cliburn Competition, Pompa-Baldi has recorded over 30
CDs. Between these, a disc with music by Brahms; one with the sonatas of Josef
Rheinberger; the integral of compositions for piano and chamber music by Edward
Grieg in 12 volumes; a disc dedicated to Rachmaninoff; the complete Hummel
sonatas on three CDs; a record with music by Robert Schumann; 2 CDs dedicated to
Liszt.
One of his most original recording projects, released in September 2013 from the
Steinway house, it is a tribute to Francis Poulenc and Edith Piaf. Next to the
Poulenc’s own arrangements of pieces for voice and piano, the recording presents
10 concert elaborations of famous songs by Edith Piaf, prepared by Maestro Roberto
Piana.
In 2003, Pompa-Baldi received two prestigious awards: the title of Steinway artist,
and nominated him, for clear fame, as “Distinguished Professor of Piano ”at the
Cleveland Institute of Music, a conservatory where he still teaches today.
In the summer of 2006 he was awarded the title of Honorary Professor of
Beijing National Conservatory of China. Over the years he has received the same
recognition from the University of Wenzhou, the Shanghai Conservatory and the
Shenyang Conservatory.
He has been jury president at the San Jose International Piano Competition in
California since 2006. He is regularly invited to the juries of the most prestigious
piano competitions, and holds masterclasses all over the world.
In 2015 he founded the Todi International Music Masters, a piano festival with
concerts and courses by specialization that takes place annually in Todi in August,
with the participation of five teachers e internationally renowned concert
performers, and fifty young pianists.
